back on the island
Finally back on the Island for some progress on our project!
Plants:
New Artist Residences
Here are the newly design residences with studio space in between. This will allow more views and comfortable sleeping and personal space for each artist!
Island plantlife
I little research on plants at Exnihilo. While on the island this coming March we hope to begin a selective clearing of the land (not just bulldozing it).
hurricane season
Although the old timers on the island claim to have never seen a hurricane in their lifetime, this season apparently chose to show them something new.
slab vs pilings... pilings win
In the beginning of the design process we had concluded that building on slab would be more economical, especially if we could just use that concrete as the first floor "flooring" and stain it.
finally, the bungalow design
Finally we can celebrate the finished design of our artist bungalows. These will be the inspirational spaces for artists to stay in, and will be the first building built on the site, hopefully if all goes well, by next May.
on to the design of the big building
Designs for the Artists Bungalows are DONE. Now it is time to tackle the big Gathering House.
more detail to the artist bungalows design
A detail of the artist bungalow. Each level is 325 square feet with kitchenette, a raised sleeping area and living/work area. The bath will be fitted with a washer/dryer. The second story will have an added sleeping loft.
exnihilo second phase: continued
A major step today. Scary, exciting, and somewhat insane. Signed a contract to get the wheels rolling on our first and second structure for Exnihilo.
